Centauri is a modulating, high-effi ciency,
three-pass, vertical fi re tube boiler. With
boiler system temperatures of 160°F to
180°F, it will operate at 84% to 85% thermal
effi ciency. When modulated down to low fi re
and with low entering water temperatures,
effi ciency can reach 94%.
With each successive pass through the
boiler, combustion gases are cooled. In the
third pass, when operating with return tem-
peratures less than 130°F, combustion prod-
ucts will cool below their dew point and the
entrained water vapor will condense on the
tube walls. The condensate that forms will
drain by gravity unimpeded into the conden-
sate collector and will be evacuated.
This vertical tube design has its origins in
condensing boilers and water heaters that
were introduced in 1996 with several thou-
sand of these products now in operation.
The vessel is constructed and stamped to
Section IV of the ASME code and carries a
10-year non-prorated warranty on materials,
manufacturing and condensate corrosion.
Condensate corrosion protection is provided
by coating the fi reside of the outer row of fi re-
tubes with PVDF, an acid-inert fl uoropolymer.

Condensing operation and the resulting higher effi ciency is
dependent upon low return water temperature and optimized
with reduced fi ring rates. Centauri is well suited for applications
such as heat pump and snow melt where return temperatures
are continuously below
