ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT ASSISTANT III
Positions in this class perform responsible and varied clerical/administrative work of a difficult
nature. The employee is responsible for performing complex clerical work, operating with a high
degree of independence over specified, standardized activity areas, and refers only highly unusual or
technical problems to supervisors for decision. Work involves typing letters, reports, and a variety
of documents and forms, maintaining records systems, greeting the public and carrying out various
related information processes. Office machine skills such as typing, data entry and computer
software utilization typify these positions although variation occurs among specific jobs assignments
and departments. Employees may perform a variety of mathematical calculations to provide basic
data for reports. Incumbents may also provide clerical and secretarial support to various staff
members or boards to contribute to efficient operations.
Reports to: Department head or other designated supervisor.
Independently performs work of a regular and recurring nature within broadly defined practices and
procedures, and performs complex clerical work of the department under limited supervision.
Prioritizes and organizes own work.
Positions at this level perform tasks of greater variety and complexity than at the II level.
Incumbents must know how to operate a personal computer, including special software, and other
office machines in carrying out tasks that normally require planning and structuring of work
processes on own initiative. The work is of a more difficult nature requiring judgement and at times
creativity in completing tasks. Incumbents receive only general supervision and are expected to
carry out work with minimal instructions and/or guidance.
