Concurrent Receipt Update
Seriously Disabled Benefit (SDB)
¾First approved by NDAA of 2000
¾20 years or more of active duty and
¾S/C disability rating at 50 percent or more
¾Not qualified for SDB if retired on disability
¾NDAA 2004 discontinued SDB, beneficiaries
converted to Concurrent Disability Pay

Concurrent Receipt Update
Combat-Related Special Compensation (CRSC)
¾20 years or more active duty
¾CRSC based on longevity. Additional
retirement due to disability subject to offset
¾Must have a Purple Heart or rated 60% or more
for disabilities incurred during combat or
hazardous duty
¾Benefit is tax free

¾Retired pay must have been offset by VA
compensation
¾NDAA 2004 extended CRSC to National Guard
and reserves who had 20 years of creditable
service.

Commission Options:
1. Endorse the current tiered approach.
Allows receipt of:
• The amount of his/her military retired pay that
had been offset by VA disability
compensation that would be paid as either
Concurrent Disability Pay or Combat-Related
Special Compensation,
• The balance if any, of their retired pay, and
• VA compensation.
