Our diapers top and back sheet are
100% biodegradable, made from
natural renewable bamboo fibers
that decompose with soil and
sunlight in 180 days
Every year in the US, an estimated
20 billion disposable diapers are
added to landfills. Conventional
diapers are made from a
polyethylene film, for the back sheet, and polypropylene, for the top sheet. These
materials are not friendly to the environment. In fact, it takes up to 500 years for
conventional diapers to decompose in a landfill, while poisoning our air with methane
and other toxic gasses. Fortunately for parents they can now purchase eco-friendly
diapers that are both absorbent and contain biodegradable components!
What does biodegradable mean? For a material to be biodegradable it must be able to
breakdown and decompose, within a short time period typically in less than a year.
Currently a 100% biodegradable diaper is not available on the market, as a diaper has
various components made from different type of materials. For a diaper to be more than
50 percent biodegradable plant-based materials like bamboo must be used for top and
back sheets. Little Toes bamboo top and back sheets decompose in a landfill when
exposed to sunlight in 180 days. Our baby wipes are also made from 100 percent
bamboo as well!
At Little Toes we also offer packaging that features a new technology that helps to
biodegrade plastic. This new technology developed by Symphony Environmental, a UK
company, “accelerates the natural process of oxidation until the product is no longer a
plastic” by creating “a material that can be bio-assimilated (ie use as a food source) by
bacteria and fungi on land or sea”. Using this waterproof, lightweight, strong and
flexible packaging, keeps your baby’s diapers sanitary from the moment they are
manufactured and ship to your do
