Pompom – how to How-To by Lisa Sawyer http://www.loomknittingdesigns.com Materials: • 1 piece of scrap card board – 2 inches by 4 inches • any worsted or bulky weight yarn • pair of scissors Pompom Instructions: Figure 1 Cut a piece of scrap cardboard about 2 inches wide by 4 inches long. On each end, cut a notch in the middle. See Figure 1. Figure 2 Step 1: Cut about an 8 inch piece of yarn for a tie. I’m making the variegated pompom pictured above, so I have two pieces in the picture, but you only need one. See Figure 2. © Copyright 2005-2006 loomknittingdesigns Lisa Sawyer FOR PERSONAL USE ONLY. For worsted weight yarn, wrap about 50 times for a good size pompom. For bulky weight yarn, wrap about 25 times for a good size pompom. Figure 4 Figure 5 Step 4: Once you are done wrapping, grab both ends of the length of yarn the we cut in step 1, and tie in a tight (really tight) square knot around the wrapping. See Figures 4 and 5. © Copyright 2005-2006 loomknittingdesigns Lisa Sawyer FOR PERSONAL USE ONLY. CANNOT BE USED FOR PROFIT. Figure 6 Figure 7 Step 5: Slide the tied wrapping off the cardboard. Hold the tied yarn in your fist, cut the opposite side of the wrapping with a pair of scissors. See Figures 6 and 7. Figure 8 Step 6: After cutting, shake out the cut pieces to form the pompom. Trim the pieces into shape. © Copyright 2005-2006 loomknittingdesigns Lisa Sawyer FOR PERSONAL USE ONLY. CANNOT BE USED FOR PROFIT.
