You can search Netlibrary and all these books are also listed on the Library Catalogue. However, where a book on your reading list is available electronically we will usually purchase a copy. These will not be in Netlibrary but are in the Catalogue. Videos and DVDs can be found on the Library catalogue. Click on Collections and choose the Video or DVD search option. They are shelved separately in an A/V Collection, together with CDs, at the rear of the Ground Floor. Suggestions for expanding this collection are welcomed. Photocopies can also be located in the catalogue under the author or title of the article or chapter or the name of the lecturer recommending the item. They are published weekly, monthly or quarterly and provide up-to-date information on research in your subject. This is not a comprehensive list. The only sure way to check whether we subscribe to a journal is to check the Library Catalogue. Copies of unbound journals, except for the most recent issue, may be borrowed overnight. There are two places to check whether we subscribe to a journal (as a print subscription or as an electronic journal): the Library Catalogue http://www.ljmu.ac.uk/librarycatalogue and Findref http://www.ljmu.ac.uk/lea/81553.htm See also http://www.ljmu.ac.uk/lea/78917.htm for links to relevant electronic journals Adapted physical activity quarterly** Animated Arts Journal: Daily Arts News* Arts Research Digest Ballet.co Magazine* Ballet Dance Magazine* British Journal of Aesthetics British journal of Teaching Physical Education (PEA) Bulletin of Physical Education Contact Quarterly Dance Chronicle* Dance Magazine** Dance Now Dance Research* Dance Research Journal Dance Spirit* Dance Theatre Journal Dancing Times** DICE (Dance in the Community Exists) Discourses in Dance 2D Drama and Dance Drama Review: the journal of Performance Studies* European Physical Education Review** Gymnast Inclusive sport International journal of performance analysis in sport* International review for the sociology of sport** Journal of Aesthetic Education Journal of Aesthetics and Art Criticism* Journal of Dance Education Journal of Physical Education New Zealand Journal of Physical Education, Recreation and Dance Journal of sport and social issues* Journal of sport behavior** Journal of Teaching in Physical Education** Journal of the Philosophy of Sport** Mailout** Movement and Dance New Dance Review* PAJ: A Journal of Performance & Art* PE and sport today** Physical education and sport pedagogy** Physical education matters Physical Educator** Primary PE Focus Research in Dance Education** Research in Drama Education* Sociology of sport journal** TDR: The Drama Review* *full text electronic journal **hard copy and full text electronic journal Searching for journal articles There are certain points you need to bear in mind when doing a literature search: 1. Define your topic as closely as possible. Be prepared to narrow it down or broaden it depending on how much information you can find (in consultation with your tutor). 2. Compile a list of search words and phrases which describe the subject. 3. Search more than one database. 4. Make use of the Userguides – usually available to print out before clicking on the Database link. 5. If the database offers a Basic or an Advanced search, always choose Advanced. 6. Databases often contain a mix of abstracts of articles as well as full text articles. LJMU does not have access to the full text of ALL journals. However, abstract only articles MAY be available in full text in a different database – or Findref http://www.ljmu.ac.uk/lea/81553.htm will tell you whether the journal you need is available 7. If, after checking the catalogue and Findref, LJMU does not have full text access to an article, you can fill in an Inter Library Loan form at the LRC counter and we will order a photocopy of the article for you (for a small charge, currently £1). Articles take approx two weeks to arrive. Full text online services Rather than waste time browsing through the contents pages of individual journal titles, it is far quicker to use an electronic database to search the contents of 100 or 1000 journals with a single search. Learning Information Services subscribe to a number of electronic services accessible at: http://www.ljmu.ac.uk/LEA/77340.htm You will almost certainly require a username and password to access them. Some of the key services for Dance are listed below, most of which are controlled by AthensDA, which means you need to log in using your LJMU username and password. Tip If you are ever asked to login to a journals database, look around the login screen for the word Athens. Usually you will need to login with your LJMU username and password, but some e- journals and databases have their own specific usernames and passwords. These are available at: http://www.ljmu.ac.uk/lea/LJMUOnly/79353.htm Almost all our e-journals and databases can be accessed off-campus. Please make sure you read the on-screen information for further instruction for accessing e-journals, and check the in to obtain login details for databases. For a comprehensive search you are advised to search the databases below, one at a time. However, you can begin with a quick search using to check which are the best databases for your subject. http://metalib.jmu.ac.uk:8331/ offers an effortless way to search several electronic information services simultaneously. Researchers may also find ’s advanced features e.g. personal journal lists, personalised database lists and automatic search alerts, useful. 4 is a linking button to navigate from an article reference or an abstract to the full-text (where this is available to members of LJMU). buttons appear next to search results in a number of online databases, in the Library Catalogue and in . They may link directly to the full text of an article, but if not, the article may still be available elsewhere. The Library Catalogue or Findref will tell you if we have access to a journal.
