Atmospheric Resource Quality
Management
370
Specific Management Intensity Actions
• Establish cover crops and maintain during critical wind
erosion periods.
•
Implement a continuous no-till, strip till, or direct seed
farming system.
• Eliminate burning of crop and other residues.
• Vegetate road shoulders to reduce dust and stabilize particle
movement from road surfaces that would initiate soil erosion
from adjacent fields.
• Utilize alternative waste treatment, waste utilization methods
and timing to reduce the odors and gases from confined
livestock, animal waste, chemicals, etc., according to a
CNMP.
•
Incorporate field applied animal wastes at least 2 inches
below the soil surface.
• Use perennial or annual trap strips during critical wind
erosion periods.

Brush Management ( ac)
314
Specific Management Intensity Actions
• Modify brush management design to create a mosaic or
pattern to enhance wildlife linkages and corridors.
• Modify timing and frequency of brush treatment burn to
benefit wildlife.
• Utilize a selective herbicide for single target species to
reduce plant damages to non-target plants.
•
Implement a brush management plan that recognizes that
certain brush species (at certain canopy levels) are desirable
from a wildlife standpoint and should not be completely
eradicated.

Conservation Crop Rotation (ac) 328
Specific Management Intensity Actions
• Utilize cover crops (340) (including legumes) in the rotation
to reduce erosion and improve soil quality.
•
Introduce perennial or semi annual crops into crop rotation to
minimize or eliminate soil disturbance for two years.
•
Increase the duration of perennial crops in the rotation to
reduce erosion, improve soil quality, and provide wildlife
habitat for three or more years.
• Decrease frequency of fallow to no more than once in four
years to reduce soil e
