Thank you for your interest in the University of Houston Charter School (UHCS)! The application
and enrollment procedure for our kindergarten through fifth grade school has begun. According to the
Texas Education Agency, the following lottery registration procedure will be implemented.
Personally delivered applications and mailed applications will be accepted only from Monday,
April 5th, at 7:30am until Friday, April 16th, at 4:30pm. UHCS is not responsible for lost applications
sent via mail. Applications received by mail after April 16th will be excluded from the initial lottery. A
receipt will be issued for all personally delivered applications. Mailed applications are not issued a
receipt. Parents must take responsibility to assure UHCS receipt of the application during this time
frame. Applications that are delivered after the deadline will be excluded from the initial lottery.
Each lottery application will be assigned a number for the child’s eligible grade level. The actual
lottery will take place Monday, April 26th, at 4:30 p.m. in the UHCS office. At the lottery, numbers for
each grade level will be drawn. Applications will then be accepted in the order established by the
lottery. The applicants receiving the lowest numbers will be contacted whenever slots become
available. Enrollment packets will be distributed to eligible applicants and are due back in the school
office complete within seven calendar days of UHCS notification. During the seven day period, the
parents of enrolling students should hold an intake conference with the principal. If the intake
conference is not held or the packet is not complete or received within the seven calendar days, the
application will be withdrawn, and the next applicant will be contacted.
Subsequent lotteries will be held should slots become available. Applicants will not be carried
over into future school years.
