01.09 D6789e2 Subject to change Ebertstraße 30a D-52134 Herzogenrath Tel: +49 (0)2407-577-0 Fax: +49 (0)2407-577-99 E-mail: telecom@head-acoustics.de WEB: www.head-acoustics.de HEAD acoustics GmbH DATASHEET DESCRIPTION The measurement methodology and limit considerations regarding the maxi- mum sound pressure level for headphones and earphones associated with portable audio equipment specified by the Euro- pean norm EN-50332 have been fully implemented by HEAD acoustics into the measurement standard EN-50332 for the communication quality analysis system ACQUA. The measurements can be modified or extended if required in order to conduct additional tests. The tests can be com- bined in any way to create individual test sequences. Combined with the advanced commu- nication quality analysis system ACQUA and the front ends MFE III, MFE VI or MFE VI.1, the EN-50332 test suite with its predefined measurement descriptors and automated measurement sequences allows the fast and easy acquisition, analy- sis and documentation of measurement data. APPLICATIONS • Automated Analysis of head- phones and earphones associated with portable audio equipment (according to European norm EN-50332, part 1 and 2) Overview The European norm EN 50332 specifies maximum sound pressure level measurement methodology and limit considerations for headphones and earphones associated with portable audio equipment. Conformance with EN 50332 can safeguard manufacturers of such devices against the increasing number of law suits filed by customers who demand compensation for hearing defects suffered during use. In France, EN-50332 is already mandatory by law, other countries will probably follow the French example soon. HEAD acoustics has therefore created an automated test suite for the com- munication quality analysis system ACQUA based on EN-50332. EN-50332(Code 6789) Maximum sound pressure level for headphones and earphones associated with portable audio equipment ACQUA User Interface with Measurement Tree of EN-50332 MEASUREMENTS The standard EN 50332 is divided into two parts: - Part 1 provides procedures for combina- tions of player units (e.g. MP3 or CD players) and headphones/earphones sold by manufacturers as "one-package sets". - Part 2 provides procedures for arbitra- rily combining players with headphones/ earphones sold separately by different manufacturers. The ACQUA standard EN-50332 addresses both parts, making it possible to evaluate both player and headphone/ earphone separately. Additionally, Part 1 and Part 2 (player characteristics) can be tested for FM receivers. The ACQUA database for EN-50332 comprises the following measurements: Part 1: One-package set characteristics - Laeq Run 1-5, Left Ear - Calculate Mean Laeq, Left Ear - Laeq Run 1-5, Right Ear - Calculate Mean Laeq, Right Ear Part 2: Player characteristics - Measure Max. Output Voltage Left Ear - Calculate Max. Output Voltage Left Ear - Measure Max. Output Voltage Right Ear - Calculate Max. Output Voltage Right Ear Part 2: Headphone/Earphone characteristics - Measure Output Voltage, Left Ear (Vout_L) - Measure Level, Left Ear (Laeq_L) - Calculate WBC Voltage, Left Ear (Vwbc_L) - Measure Output Voltage, Right Ear (Vout_R), int. MA - Measure Level, Right Ear (Laeq_R), int. MA - Calculate WBC Voltage, Right Ear (Vwbc_R), int. MA - Measure Output Voltage, Right Ear (Vout_R) - Measure Level, Right Ear (Laeq_R) - Calculate WBC Voltage, Right Ear (Vwbc_R) FM Receiver Tests - Laeq Run 1-5, Left Ear, FM Receiver - Calculate Mean Laeq, Left Ear, FM Recei- ver - Laeq Run 1-5, Right Ear, FM Receiver - Calculate Mean Laeq, Right Ear, FM Receiver - Measure Max. Output Voltage Left Ear, FM Receiver - Calculate Max. Output Voltage Left Ear, FM Receiver - Measure Max. Output Voltage Right Ear, FM Receiver - Calculate Max. Output Voltage Right Ear, FM Receiver Note: if MFE III is used instead of MFE VI.1 special versions of some SMDs (single measurement descriptors) must be used which are included in the database. 01.09 D6789e2 Subject to change represented by SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS EN-50332 requires the following system components: • ACQUA Communication Analysis System as one of the following versions: - Standard (Code 6810) - Standard Workplace (Code 6830, for analysis only) - Compact Systems (Code 6860.xx) • MFE VI.1 Measurement Front End with integrated mouth amplifier (Code 6462); alternatively: MFE VI (Code 6460) with external mouth amplifier (e.g. HMA IV, Code 1411); alternatively: MFE III (Code 6201) • HMS II.3 HEAD Measurement System (Code 1230) • HEL/HER IV (Code 1358/1359), HEL/HER IV.1 (Code 1371/1372), HEL/HER IV.2 (Code 1381/1382): Pinna (left/right) according to ITU-T P.57 Type 3.3, anatomically shaped DELIVERY • EN-50332 (Code 6789), delivered on CD as ACQUA database • Cabling set for connection of HEAD acoustics measurement front ends (MFEs), consisting of: - Cable cinch plug to 4mm banana plug for connection of headphone amplifier (HPA) output to MFE Balanced Input for determination of electrical output level of HPA. - Cable cinch socket (3.5) to 4mm banana plug for connection of headphone (HP) to MFE mouth amplifier for determination of acoustical output level of HP. - Cable cinch plug (3.5) to BNC plug (with integrated 32 Ohm resistance) for connection of the player device to MFE for determination of electrical output level of the player. • Keyfile on CD • Manual on CD Intra-concha handy headset in anatomically shaped pinna (type 3.3) of artificial head HMS II.3
