E-Cigarettes: What You Have to Know E-cigarettes are known by many different names, including e-cigs, electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS), alternative nicotine delivery systems (ANDS), e-hookahs, mods, vape pens, vaporizers, vapes, and tank systems. BIDI Stick is one popular model of e-cigarette. E-cigarettes can be purchased in many shapes and sizes. They will look like cigarettes, cigars, pipes, pens, USB flash drives, or may maintain other forms. E-cigarettes incorporate a battery that turns the device on, a heating element that heats the e-liquid, and turns it into an aerosol of tiny particles (sometimes called a “vapor”), a tube or tank that holds the e-liquid, and a mouthpiece or opening used to inhale the aerosol. E-cigarettes do not contain tobacco, but many contain nicotine, which originates from tobacco. Due to this, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) classifies them as "tobacco products." What's vaping? The use of e-cigarettes is usually called “vaping” because many people believe e-cigarettes create a vapor, that will be then inhaled. E-cigarettes produce an aerosol comprised of tiny particles, that will be different from a vapor. How can e-cigarettes work? E-cigarettes heat a fluid – called e-liquid or e-juice, to turn it into an aerosol (sometimes called a "vapor"). E-cigarette users inhale this within their lungs. Are e-cigarettes safer than regular cigarettes? Most researchers cautiously lean toward "yes", despite the unknowns. Since the immediate harms of e-cigarettes seem to be minimal compared with regular cigarettes, many researchers concur that there is a compelling case to be created for e-cigarettes as a harm-reduction tool for heavy smokers, at least in the short term.
