Free Home Care In New York: How OPWDD
Enrollment Works & What Families Can Expect
New York families can access free home care via
OPWDD enrollment. Your loved one may receive
comprehensive services at zero cost to your family.
OPWDD provides free group
homes, day programs, family
support like respite care,
employment training, and full
health services including
medical care.
Families qualify if a loved one has a developmental disability diagnosed before age 22,
such as autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, or similar conditions.
Begin with an eligibility assessment using medical
evaluations and documentation. Once approved,
OPWDD creates an Individualized Service Plan for
free care.
Home Care Advisory Group gathers documentation,
completes assessments, submits Medicaid
applications, and guides families through the planning
process.
The group also assists with veterans benefits, long-term care insurance claims, CDPAP, NHTD, TBI
programs, and other Medicaid waiver applications.
