Stepping Back
“I feel really lonely. I am desperate,” commented “A” to
Phil during the fellowship time at the end of a recent cell
group meeting. This began a conversation that would be
continued the following day when he came by our house.
Phil had the opportunity to hear more of “A’s” story and
discuss with him how the Lord could help him through
the difficulties he was having in his life, especially with
his relationships. The time ended with heartfelt prayer
for the Lord to work in his life as well as bring healing in
his family. Since that time, “A” has been attending cell
group and has begun attending church regularly. He has
also stopped drinking, although finds it very hard to
resist the temptation. He attended a recent children’s
day event the church hosted and it is obvious he is
looking for opportunities to be free of his old lifestyle.
“Did Jesus have a wife and a child?” Manuel asked Phil
the last time they had their weekly Bible study. While he
has much to learn, it is wonderful to see him continue to
have such a thirst for knowledge and understanding.
Please pray for him to continue to thirst for the truth
and to always go to the Bible for answers. Pray that
when we leave next month for our home assignment
that the Lord would bring mature believers along side of
him to continue to mentor and disciple him.
“God has surely reminded me this week of how invest-
ing in the people who surround you is much more
important than avoiding that guilt trip you were plan-
ning on giving yourself for not doing enough. My priori-
ties have certainly been shifted around a bunch by the
God who created these people that my watch tells me
to avoid,” wrote Becky, one of the senior class members
from Perry Hall Christian School who spent a week here
