Blinds v
Curtains
What is the
difference
between a curtain
and a blind?
In very simple terms, a blind hangs close to the
window glass and is usually fitted within the
window frame. Curtains are usually hung from a
curtain pole or track above the window frame
and when closed, cover the window and window
frame.
A curtain made from a luxurious material will become a feature of your
room. Good-quality curtains will enhance the décor and make a design
statement in any room.

The price range for a set of curtains is huge! Small standard-sized
curtains can cost as little as £20. If you don’t have a huge budget this is
where curtains can benefit over blinds.
PRICE
A set of ceiling-to-floor curtains that are lined and made from a good-
quality thick material will help insulate your room on a cold winter’s
evening.
INSULATION
There is no limit to the colours, patterns, or choice of fabrics for curtains.
They range from light, sheer voile to patterned, heavy velvet fabrics.
CHOICE
Curtains can completely block the light to give you a darkened bedroom
or they can be drawn back so you can enjoy the view and benefit from the
light.
LIGHT
High-quality made-to-measure curtains can be expensive especially if you
have large windows.

DISADVANTAGES

Curtains can be susceptible to water and dampness so aren't suitable in
all rooms eg bathrooms.
DAMAGE
Curtains don't provide the same flexibility as blinds for only shading part
of the room. They tend to be fully open or closed.
LIGHT
If you have a radiator under your window and then buy full-length
curtains, the radiator will be behind the closed curtain on a winter’s
evening when you need the heat from the radiator the most.
WARMTH
There are many types of blinds now available including traditional Roller,
Vertical, and Venetian blinds to the newer Vision, Perfect Fit, and Faux
Wood blinds. There is a style to suit all homes and decor.
