This course will examine the history of women in North Carolina
and the tools scholars use to “make history.” We will use as our
text Margaret Supplee Smith and Emily Herring Wilson’s North
Carolina Women: Making History. Each student will read one
other book on women in North Carolina and will write an oral his-
tory of a women either born or currently living in NC. We will
spend time examining how scholars use documents of all sorts to
interpret the past.
