Armpit stains are obviously embarrassing.
Unfortunately, the aluminum compound in
antiperspirants, which is meant to reduce
wetness, is what causes yellow armpit stains.
If not washed properly, the stains and odor
will remain in the fabric.
While they can be stubborn and may require
several washes or treatment, you don’t need
any fancy or strong chemicals to remove
sweat stains. In fact, ordinary laundry
detergent and several simple household
solutions can do the trick.
How Do You Get Rid of Armpit Stains?
To clean armpit stains at home, you will
need the following:
Toothbrush or sponge
Laundry detergent
Baking soda
Hydrogen peroxide
Chlorine bleach
White vinegar
Enzyme-based stain remover (optional)
Before you start washing, you need to test
your stain removers first. No matter how safe
they may seem, bleaching agents like
hydrogen peroxide, if not colorfast, may fade
colored fabrics. Dampen a cotton swab with
the solution you would like to use and dab it
on the inside of the fabric. If you see some
color on your swab, use natural ingredients
like vinegar instead.
It will take approximately 45 minutes to
complete the washing process. Let’s begin!
1. Sponge the Yellow Armpit Stains
Create a cleaning solution by mixing equal
parts of water, baking soda, and hydrogen
peroxide. Using a sponge or an old
toothbrush, rub the mixture onto the stained
area. Alternatively, you can sponge the
blemish with undiluted white vinegar. Allow
the solution to sit with the fabric for up to 30
minutes.
2. Rinse Well with Water
Wash the fabric using warm or cold water.
Never use hot water because it will set the
stains.
3. Pre-Treat with Enzymes
This step is optional. You may use an
enzyme-based stain remover or heavy
detergents with enzyme-based formulas to
pre-treat your stained clothing. Let it sit for 5
minutes or as instructed by the manufacturer.
4. Wash as Usual
Wash the garment as you normally would,
using the hottest water that is safe for the
fabric.
5. Air Dry
Allow the clothing to air dry, then check for
any marks of sweat stains. If there is still a
tinge of yellow armpit stains, repeat the
treatment as before. For white garments that
are safe for bleaching, you may wash with
chlorine bleach.
Once you have completely removed all stains,
you can resume air drying the clothing.

That Are Effective Against Sweat Stains
Meat Tenderizer
Did you know that a meat tenderizer can help
remove sweat stains? That’s right! Tenderize
hard to remove blemishes by dampening or
sprinkling some meat tenderizer on the
armpit area. Let it sit for a few minutes and
then wash as usual.
Salt
Salt can do wonders for your shirts too! Get
rid of those stubborn yellow armpit stains by
dissolving 4 tablespoons of salt in 1 liter of
water. Sponge the fabric with the solution
until the stain disappears.
Lemons
Your favorite lemon drink is not only good for
hydration and flu; it’s also an excellent stain
cleaner, too! Scrub your shirts and blouses
with a mixture of equal parts of water and
lemon juice.
Aspirin
Do you have an aspirin in your medicine kit at
home? This is good against armpit stains on
your good white dress or shirt. Crush two
tablets of aspirin into powder and
Vodka
Who would have thought that your favorite
distilled alcoholic drink can help clean armpit
stains? Amazing, isn’t it? Create a 1:1 solution
of vodka and warm water. Spray the solution
to the stained area before washing.
Ammonia
A half-strength solution of ammonia and
water will not only remove sweat stains; it is
effective against urine and blood spills too!
Dab the area using a cloth or cotton swab. A
word of caution, though: never mix it with
bleach!
No matter what ingredient or method you
choose, be sure to wash stained clothing as
quickly as possible. A fresh stain is always
easier to remove. If the stains keep coming
back on a regular basis, you may also want to
try a new deodorant. There are aluminum-
free antiperspirants. That switch can help
