Setting the plan for the Niha Project
CEDRO PROJECT SEES THE LIGHT
On April 15, 2008, CEDRO project witnessed its first stakeholders’ meeting at Rotana Gefinor Hotel in Beirut. The meeting,
organized by UNDP, was held to discuss Phase 1 of the Project targeting the Bekaa, South & Akkar areas, in the presence
of public institutes’ officials and municipalities’ representatives who are the main beneficiaries of the Project. During the
meeting, CEDRO project manager, Miss Matilda Khoury, outlined the Project’s goals and objectives as well as the selection
process of the beneficieries. Mr. Xavier Vallvé, from Trama TechnoAmbiental, Spanish Technical Backstopping of the Project, clarified
the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Applications in the context of CEDRO. The Lebanese Center for Energy Conservation
Project (LCECP) took this opportunity to present its experience in implementing Energy Audit and Energy Conservation Measures
(ECMs) at Public Facilities. In this regards, the Ministry of Energy & Water and Ghobeiry Municipality case studies were highlighted,
whereby the achieved energy savings had reached around 21%.
CFL PILOT PROJECT SCORES
A SUCCESS IN NIHA
In 2007, LCECP and “Electricité De Zahlé” (EDZ) agreed to launch a pilot
project consisting of installing around 1,048 Compact Fluorescent
Lamps (CFLs) in the village of Niha. These CFLs were purchased by
LCECP and installed free-of-charge by EDZ as an in-kind contribution.
Using their own data collection system, EDZ provided LCECP’s technical
team with the consumption data needed to understand electricity usage
at the beneficiaries’ houses and calculate the savings achieved. Savings
reached an average of 13.5% of the electricity bill for each house.

LCECP has already launched a similar project in one area covered by
