Marketing Opportunities
2011/12
Dear colleagues,
Given the ongoing global economic uncertainty and domestic austerity measures
facing UK Plc, we should be more proud than ever of the £5.5bn contribution the
tourism industry makes to the city-region economy each year.
The fact that the average hotel occupancy in the city rose slightly during 2010
to hit 71% is a positive sign that, on top of the trend to ‘stay-cation’, the general
public are, as yet, unwilling to sacrifice their holidays and city breaks as part of
individual household budget cuts. It is important that we capitalise on this for
the benefit of the city.
Flexibility is the name of the game for 2011-12 and a number of the marketing
opportunities listed on the following pages allow for this.
Can I draw your attention, in particular, to the online campaigns available on
visitmanchester.com - the most popular tourist board website in the North West
with over 1.3 million visitors a year - and also to the screen advertising available
in the Manchester Visitor Information Centre.
The re-launch of the city’s conference website as visitmanchester.com/conference
is another important step we have taken to ensure that the £573m that business
tourism generates for the city each year not only continues, but grows.
Should you wish to discuss any of the activity listed on the following pages in
more detail, please do not hesitate to contact a member of commercial team
We look forward to working with you.
