Professor Carmen-Michaela Cretu
Associate Professor Parasitology Department,
University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Bucharest,
Professor Cretu studied at the Medical school in
Bucharest, Carol Davila University of Medicine and
Pharmacy. She was later a student at London School
of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, graduated with the
Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. She
Parasitology, then prepared the PhD theses, title
granted in 1998.
She followed courses and received competence in General echography (Bucharest, 2002) and
Management of medical services (Bucharest, 2005). She followed the Preparatory course for the
Certificate in Travel Health (CTH) in Basel, Switzerland. Since 2005 she has been an Associate
Professor in Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy and Colentina Clinical Hospital,
Bucharest, Parasitology Department. She is also working in the private sector, where she offers
medical advice and consultations in Parasitology, Tropical Medicine and Travel Health, being the
only person in Romania with this expertise and CTH.
She has been part of many national and international research projects and is an active member of
several national and international societies, such as the International Society of Travel Medicine, the
Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, the European Society of Microbiology and Infection
Diseases, the International Society of Echinococcosis, the President of the Romanian Association of
She is an ECMID Fellow and has published many books and articles on medicine.
