Teen Depression In Girls & Boys: How Mental
Health Experts Are Trying To Reverse The Statistics
In recent years, mental health awareness for
adolescents has grown—but so too have the
challenges young people face.
Rising academic pressures,
increasing social isolation and a
hyper-connected digital
landscape have all contributed
to escalating rates of depression
among teens across genders.
However, as Mission Prep explains, gender actually plays a powerful role in how
symptoms first emerge, how they are expressed and how they are treated—or
overlooked.
That's why the specialized adolescent mental
health clinic has released a new report explaining
the gendered differences in how depression
manifests in teens.
They have also been piloting the use of Transcranial
Magnetic Stimulation among their patients to help
those teens who don't respond well to traditional
treatments.
They believe that as depression rates worsen, clinics must refine their diagnostic tools and treatment
strategies to better reflect the distinct experiences of teen girls and boys.
