How To Store Crypto on a Flash Drive: DIY
Hardware Wallet for Beginners
If you're strapped for cash, but also don't want to
leave all your digital "cash" up for grabs, you
should consider creating your own hardware
wallet.
I'm no expert on the matter, but I did
get my info from the leading experts
on hardware crypto storage - The
Crypto Merchant.
They wrote a guide which tells you all
you need to do to turn your USB drive
into crypto storage. And it's super
simple - here's the gist of it:
Formatting the USB: You should first
ensure the drive is clean - that means no
data and no malware. Then, just format it
and select the exFAT file system.
Encrypting the USB: If you're running a
newer version of Windows, you can
easily encrypt your flash drives using
the BitLocker security feature.
Setting a Password: Follow best
practices. Create a unique
password consisting of at least 12
characters and combine upper
and lower case letters, numbers,
and special characters.
