DHL Employees Volunteer with Habitat for Humanity During Company-Wide Volunteer Day l More Than 10 Percent of Employees Volunteer in 10 Local Communities across the U.S. and Canada September 16, 2010 09:33 AM Eastern Daylight Time PLANTATION, Fla.--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--DHL today announces it is partnering with Habitat for Humanity to create simple, decent and affordable housing. The partnership coincides with DHL’s company-wide Volunteer Day and its commitment to employee involvement and service to the community. More than 10 percent of DHL Global Forwarding’s employees will volunteer their time to help construct 10 Habitat houses — eight in the U.S. and two in Canada. Habitat for Humanity Chicago South Suburbs will host DHL Global Forwarding employees as they volunteer their time to help construct a home in Riverdale, Illinois. Additionally, eight storage sheds will also be constructed by more than 100 senior executives to support homes being built in the Chicago area. DHL Global Forwarding’s participation has been scheduled to coincide with DHL’s company-wide Volunteer Day taking place Sept. 14 - 25. In the U.S., employees will participate in the building of Habitat homes in Dallas, Houston, South Florida, Los Angeles, Newark/New York, San Francisco Bay area, and the Seattle metro area. In Canada, the builds will take place in Toronto and Montreal. Each home will be outfitted with green features that help conserve energy and water, making them more affordable for those living in them and less impactful on the environment. “This year DHL Global Forwarding is excited to partner with Habitat for Humanity in its efforts to partner with low- income families to achieve homeownership, by helping build houses in 10 locations throughout the U.S. and Canada,” said Brian Lindholm, DHL Global Forwarding CEO for North America. “We believe that people are our greatest asset and we encourage employees to actively participate in community efforts, as well as inspire the spirit of volunteerism. We are proud of the employees volunteering and hope that our relationship with Habitat for Humanity will help make a positive impact where hope is needed.” “We are so grateful that DHL is working in communities to help make simple, decent and affordable housing possible with low-income families,” said David Tracy, Executive Director, Habitat for Humanity Chicago South Suburbs. “This sponsorship is making a difference here and in other communities across the country.” Introduced in Asia Pacific in 2008, DHL Volunteer Day has expanded into the Americas, Middle East, Africa and Europe over the years, and continues to build on its success by involving more employees than ever before. This year, around 30,000 employees, customers and business partners in over 100 countries took a day to participate in over many diverse community projects in support of various local causes. These programs deliver to the company’s three corporate social responsibility pillars – Education (GoTeach), Environment (GoGreen) and Disaster Management (GoHelp).
