About Friends of County Parks
The Friends of the County Parks, established in 1988, is a group of concerned citizens joining together to promote financial and community support to the Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation, and Conservation Department. They develop public awareness of recreation as an important part of day-to-day life.
Funds provided by The Friends of the County Parks are used as a supplement to the Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department budget and does not replace allocated tax dollars. These additional funds helps maintain, improve, and enhance services provided by the Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department. The Friends of the County Parks enjoys a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit exemption status.

RUN HILLSBOROUGH 5K SERIES
Hillsborough County Parks & Recreation Department is
putting on a series of 5K Runs throughout Hillsborough
County. Cost for each race is $30 per person and each
participant will receive a t-shirt and medal. Awards will be
given out to the top finishers at each race. All races will
start at 8:30am with check-in beginning at 7:30am. The
series races are:
Feb. 15th @ Stephen J Wortham Park
Mar. 21st @ William Owen Pass Park
Apr. 18th @ Carrollwood Village Park

KING AND QUEEN OF HEARTS
VALENTINES BASH
Ruskin Recreation Center will be hosting
its Annual King and Queen of Hearts Party
at the recreation center on Friday,
February 14th. The event is part of the
after-school program and will include a
jump rope contest, hula hoop contest, the
crowing of the King and Queen of Hearts.
All the kids will receive a bag of candy and
some ice cream.
CUPID’S PARTY AT TURKEY CREEK
Turkey Creek Recreation Center will hold a
Valentine’s Day Party for its participants
on Friday, February 14th. All the kids will
participate in games such as Valentine’s
Bingo, Cupid Toss and much more. This
fun filled event will have refreshment
especially some valentine’s candy for
everyone.
TAMPA BAY CLASH FOR THE CUP
The Tampa Bay Clash for the Cup, a
hockey tournament for the after-school
kids, will be held on Monday, Feb. 17th at
EPJ Recreation in Progress Village. The
kids will spend the day competing against
each other and enjoy some hotdogs, chips
and drinks.

50 PLUS BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT AT
RUSKIN RECREATION CENTER
Ruskin Recreation Center will host a 50 Plus
Basketball Tournament on Feb. 21st at the recreation
center. Cost is $5 per person with the proceeds
benefiting Friends of the County Parks. Food will be
served as well so all you need to do come on down
and play some basketball. For more information

SENIOR APPRECIATION LUNCHEON &
MAHJONG LESSONS AT
MANGO RECREATION CENTER
Mango Recreation Center will host its Annual Senior
Appreciation Luncheon on March 4th. This year in
addition to the luncheon all the participants will have
the opportunity to learn how to play Mahjong. The
luncheon is put on by the staff to show their
appreciation for the adults and seniors that volunteer
their time to assist and help out at the recreation
center. The luncheon will be spaghetti, salad, and

CAMP STAFF
BEST SHREDDER SERIES KICKOFF AT
JACKSON SPRINGS
The Best Shredder Series was kicked off
on Friday, Feb. 7th at Jackson Springs Skate
Park. The participants had a great time
and got to perform a variety of skills
during the event. Participants were also
given pizza and drinks. Fun times.
SKATE BINGO AT
PROVIDENCE SKATE PARK
Providence Skate Park will host its first
ever Skate Bingo on March 7th. Sounds
fun…take the traditional game of bingo
and incorporate skateboarding tricks into
it. Each number will corrolate with a
certain trick, each person will get a chance
to try the trick and if they land it they will
be able to place a piece on the that
number. First person to fill up the column
