Spitfire VDSL is exceptionally fast business broadband Internet which depending upon your location should allow Internet bandwidth between 15Mb and 40Mb downstream and up to 2Mb or 10Mb upstream. How does VDSL work? VDSL uses a fibre connection between your local BT exchange and your local BT node and a copper connection from the node to your premises. By bringing fibre closer to you, the speed which can be provided is increased over conventional ADSL but note that the actual connection speed will be dependent upon the length and quality of this final copper link. What does ‘trial’ mean? Spitfire is one of a handful of ISP’s who have been chosen to trial VDSL by BT Wholesale. The trial covers Muswell Hill in London, Whitchurch in Cardiff and Halfway in Glasgow and is open for end-users in these areas from now until 30.11.09. For those taking part in the trial, this will continue until early 2010 when depending upon the results, Spitfire will either give the end-user the choice to continue with the fully launched product (at normal prices) or the choice to cease or migrate to conventional ADSL. The service should be reliable but being a trial and as with all our Internet Broadband products we highly recommend that you have a back-up circuit in place. This costs from just £15.00 per month for ADSL back-up. Please discuss this with your Account Manager or IT company. Your feedback will be important to both Spitfire and BT Wholesale so we will ask you to complete a short survey during the trial and we welcome all comments at any stage. Can I get VDSL? If you are in the Muswell Hill, Whitchurch or Halfway areas please contact us on 020 7501 3150 to find out if you can receive VDSL. All other customers will have to wait until 2010 when the product will start being rolled out nationally. What equipment will I require? The service is installed on an analogue line (as with ADSL), but unlike ‘wires-only’ ADSL, for the period of the trial a BT engineer will visit and install a dedicated face plate on the analogue line together with a BT owned VDSL modem. Spitfire will provide a 4 port Spitfire owned and managed Ethernet router behind the modem giving normal wired router functionality (NAT, no-NAT, port forwarding etc) so please ensure that you have two spare power sockets for these devices to use. Please contact us should you require a wireless router. (cont.) As a special trial offer, Spitfire VDSL is free to connect and costs the same as conventional ADSL Max and 2+. This means that customers can get up to five times as much bandwidth as ADSL Max for the same cost. The charges for the VDSL trial are as follows: Downstream Upstream Price VDSL Standard Unlimited up to 40Mb up to 2Mb £29.00 per month VDSL Premium Unlimited up to 40Mb up to 10Mb £49.00 per month Connection of new circuit: £75.00 Upgrade from ADSL: £0.00 Migration of ADSL from other ISP: £0.00 VDSL Modem (BTW owned & managed): £0.00 (includes installation) Fully managed Spitfire router (obligatory): £149.00 (4 port 10/100 router – not wireless) Note that in common with its intended business usage profile, the service is subject to a standard fair usage policy. Can I upgrade my current ADSL to VDSL? It is possible to upgrade ADSL to VDSL although our recommendation is that you run both circuits simultaneously for a while to ensure that you are happy with the performance of VDSL before ceasing your ADSL or converting it to a back-up circuit at £15.00 per month. Spitfire does not charge to upgrade your current ADSL to VDSL but you will require a Spitfire managed and owned Ethernet router. Should you be unhappy with the performance of VDSL and we are unable to resolve this then we will be able to revert your VDSL back to ADSL Max or 2+. How can I move an existing ADSL to Spitfire’s VDSL service? Your existing ADSL service can be migrated (transferred) to Spitfire VDSL by obtaining a ‘MAC’ (Migration Authorisation Code) from your existing provider. However, please see our comments above regarding upgrading ADSL to VDSL. Are the normal Spitfire ADSL options available? Since the product is a trial, Spitfire is not able to provide all our normal ADSL options although some are available as follows: Not available during trial: Expedite / Simultaneous provide / TotalCare / Wires-only service. Available as normal: Plus & Premium Support / Migration / Bandwidth upgrade / Domain & email. How long will the service take to install? The service will normally be installed 5-8 days from the day that the order has been accepted by Spitfire / BT Wholesale. Please remember that the service requires a BT Openreach engineer to visit and it is important that this appointment is not missed. How do I find out more or order this service? If you have any questions regarding this service or would like to place an order please contact your IT Support Company or call the Spitfire Partner Services team on 020 7501 3150. Alternatively, email us at partners@spitfire.co.uk
