EQUIPMENT PACKAGE APPLICATION—2009
Hoosier Riverwatch and Volunteer Water Quality Monitoring
Hoosier Riverwatch is Indiana’s statewide volunteer stream monitoring and education program. It is operated by the
Indiana Department of Natural Resources Division of Fish and Wildlife with funding provided in part by the Federal
Sport Fish Restoration Fund. Hoosier Riverwatch’s goals are to:
Provide education and training on watersheds and water quality
Increase public involvement in water quality issues
Promote responsible stewardship of water resources
Provide water quality information to citizens and governmental
agencies working to protect Indiana's rivers and streams
Since 1996 Hoosier Riverwatch has been training volunteers through Basic and Special Topic Workshops.
Participants gain hands-on experience and learn how to assess a stream’s water quality using physical, chemical, and
biological methods.
Equipment Packages
Hoosier Riverwatch has awarded over 400 Equipment Packages since 2001 and is pleased to continue to offer the
opportunity for eligible volunteers and groups to receive equipment. The combined Chemical and Biological packages
are valued at over $400 worth of equipment and supplies!
Eligibility
Equipment recipients must meet the following criteria:
Be affiliated with a non-profit organization, school, or government agency
Agree to the Cooperative Agreement (pg. 4), including:
o Attend a Basic Training Workshop
o Monitor and submit data online at least 4 times per year for 2 years (Total of 8 data sets by
December 31, 2011)
o Submit 4 online Activity Reports within 2 years
Return the completed 2009 Equipment Application no later than September 1, 2009.
NOTE: Applications are processed on a rolling basis. Equipment Packages available beginning in March 2009. The
award process is competitive, so please complete your application in detail so that we may fully assess your
