Drs. Chougule and Perlow of Southlake Family Dentistry want patients informed about any dental procedures they may need. Here, they've released a list of what to expect, during routine cleanings. The full article of the five steps can be found at: https://southlakedentistry.com/from-start-to-finish-your-regular-dental-cleaning
From Start To Finish: Your Regular
Dental Cleaning
Southlake Family Dentistry of
Fort Mill, SC, has published a
list to explain the five steps of
a routine dental cleaning.
We've all had a dental cleaning
done, but do you really know
what they're doing while you're
in that chair? Southlake wants
to make sure you know.
It’s important to be aware that it is
normally the hygienist who cleans
teeth, not the dentist. Hygienists
are trained specifically to perform
cleanings and are great at what
they do.
There are several processes
and steps that go into a
dental cleaning, and we’re
breaking down three of the
five steps.
The dental hygienist will
examine your teeth and gums
for signs of gingivitis. If
everything looks good, the
hygienist will move to the next
step.
However, if your gums are
inflamed or swollen, they may
call in the dentist for a look. If
your gums are unhealthy,
there's a risk for tooth loss.
Next is the removal of plaque
and tartar, an essential step in
cleaning. The hygienist will use
a mirror and scaler to remove
the plaque and tartar.
After that is cleaning and
polishing. In this step
hygienists use a gritty
toothpaste and a special
toothbrush to polish the
surfaces of teeth.
This kind of cleaning is safe to
do once or twice a year but is too
harsh to be done more often
than that and should only be
done by professionals in a dental
office.
Knowing the steps of a dental
cleaning, we hope you feel
prepared for your next visit. Let
us help you keep your teeth in
the best possible condition.
