Crashbar Improv Celebrates Its Two-Year Anniversary on Sunday July 11th Crashbar Improv, a weekly comedy show featuring six improv teams and one stand up comic, has put on over 100 shows in the heart of Hollywood. (PRWEB) -- In a city where most residences only last two years, Crashbar Improv will host its two-year anniversary on Sunday July 11th at the Impro Theater on Vermont Ave. The show, which was started when iO West shut down due to a car crashing into the theater’s front bar, originally began as a fundraiser for the bartenders and waitresses who lost their jobs because of the crash. Since then, Crashbar has become a home for iO West, Upright Citizen Brigade, Groundling and other improv theaters’ teams looking for another chance to perform. “Improvisers can only learn so much with practice. They need a chance to get up in front of an audience and see how they do. We give them that opportunity,” says Will Doughty, co-producer of Crashbar Improv. In the past, Crashbar Improv was on Thursday nights, but the two-year anniversary show signals a lot of changes: the show will be on Sunday nights, will change from a $5 admission to audience donations, and is excited to make the Impro Theater its new home. Crashbar Improv isn’t just a stage for students, the show consistantly books veteran improv teams, who regularly perform at UCB and iO West as well as guest star on TV shows, movies, and the more than occasional commercial. “We use Crashbar Improv as a chance to get newer performers on stage, along with professionals. Everyone steps up, which results in an amazing night of comedy,” says Casey Feigh, another producer of Crashbar Improv. With a yearlong waiting list for a performance slot, it’s clear that Crashbar Improv is filling a need in the comedy world. “UCB and iO West are being billed as the alternative comedy scene by the media,” say Feigh, “Crashbar is the alternative to the alternative. We are the place to see talented comedians before they were cool.” With six improv teams and one stand up comic, Crashbar has a lot to offer. And with the move to the Impro theater, the show will be donation based - meaning it is not only a much cheaper option than the traditional comedy clubs but also a cheaper option than already affordable UCB and iO shows. “We aren’t here to make money; it’s a chance to perform and a place for the comedy community to meet,” says Doughty, “We are here for the comedians.” In a city where everyone is trying to find the next big thing, Crashbar Improv is giving you a chance to discover it. Crashbar Improv’s Two-Year Anniversary Show will be on July 11th at 7 pm at the Impro Theater located at 1727 N. Vermont Ave Ste. 211, Los Angeles, CA 90189. The line up is posted on the show’s website and facebook page. Crashbar Improv is a Los Angeles based improv and stand up show located at the Improv Theater on Vermont Blvd. The show is produced by Lilan Bowden, Will Doughty, Casey Feigh, Jacob Womack and Diana Wright.
