Campers traveling with rvs or trailers can take advantage of a choice of campsites offering full-service pull-though sites with hot showers, game rooms, entertainment and playgrounds for the kids. These are the places where families can get away to the outdoors, but still have the comforts of home. On the other hand, if you prefer a more natural experience, look no further than the White Mountain National Forest’s 23 easily accessible campgrounds in the region. From Waterville Valley to Evans Notch, you can spend your vacation surrounded by the stunning beauty of the National Forest. Just remember, as you enjoy the wilderness, to respect the delicate nature of the woods and take only pictures, and leave only footprints. To get the most out of your camping experience, before you set out it’s important to know, including what is (and isn’t) allowed. The following will provide some specific guidelines; since rules vary from area to area, you should contact the Forest Service or one of the Ranger Stations in the region (see page 68) to determine what restrictions, if any, apply to your particular destination. Some standard restrictions to keep in mind are: n Above treeline, camping is allowed only when there is at least two feet of snow on the ground. n Great Gulf Wilderness: camping below treeline only, and 200' off the trail or in designated sites along the trail. Camping is not permitted beyond the junction of the Sphinx and Great Gulf Trails in the direction of Spaulding Lake. n Cutler River Drainage (includes Tuckerman & Huntington Ravines): camping at the Hermit Lake Shelters only. n No camping, wood, or charcoal fires within 1/4 mile of any shelter, tent platform, hut, cabin, picnic area, or campground. n No camping, wood, or charcoal fires in any Wilderness Area. n Motorized equipment or mechanical transport (except wheelchairs) is not allowed in any Congressionally-designated Wilderness Area. Additionally, hiking and/or camping groups are limited to no more than 10 people. Additional restrictions on camping and fires include n Camping and fires are not permitted within 200' of the Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail n Camping and fires are not permitted within 1/4 mile of Rte. 16, AMC or RMC facilities, the Pinkham Notch Visitor Center, the Dolly Copp Campground, or Glen Ellis Falls. ellen ederSheimtWIN MOUNtAIN tWIN MOUNtAIN KOA Route 115, Twin Mountain 03595 603-846-5559 • 800-562-9117 www.twinmountainkoa.com Enjoy Twin Mtn.
