PAW GmbH & Co.KG Böcklerstraße 11 | D-31789 HAMELN | GERMANY +49-5151-9856-0 | +49-5151-9856-98 info@paw.eu | www.paw.eu PAW - customer-oriented solutions and innovative power Founded in 1964 and based in Hameln, the family- owned company PAW GmbH & Co. KG, is a system technology specialist for heating and solar thermal systems. Innovative power, customized develop-ments, as well as a broad product portfolio, have made PAW a reliable partner for a large variety of customers. Com- prehensive and professional technical support and dedicated customer orientation complete the servi- ces offered by PAW. PAW develops and manufactures its products exclu- sively in Germany. By using only top quality materials and employing optimized production processes this ensures a maximum of quality. In 2009, exports accounted for over 60% at PAW. The Hameln location alone was no longer sufficiently able to best meet the demands and requirements of all customers in their different markets. PAW France S.a.r.l. was the first subsidiary in 2008, followed in 2009 by PAW Tecnologia Calefaccion y Solar in Spain, PAW Polska, PAW VertriebsGmbH in Austria and PAW LP in the USA. PAW at the InterSolar 2010 Again this year, PAW will be showing a number of so- lution-oriented new developments at the InterSolar in Munich. For the first time PAW have utilized their decades of hydraulics know-how to customize a control strate- gy for their solar and transfer stations. Results of this development are the solar controllers SC4.16 and SC8.24 which offer numerous additional functions, such as plant visualization, remote monitoring and manipulation. This year, the proven FlowCon solar stations will be presented in two different variants: the FlowCon Ba- sic, an inexpensive entry level model, and the Flow- Con Premium, an exclusive station offering cutting- edge technology. The following pages give information on further PAW product highlights. PAW GmbH & Co.KG Böcklerstraße 11 | D-31789 HAMELN | GERMANY +49-5151-9856-0 | +49-5151-9856-98 info@paw.eu | www.paw.eu FriwaMini domestic hot water module Now that the domestic hot water stations for medi- um and larger volumes, Friwa and Friwa-Kaskade, are well established on the markets, PAW will round off its product range this year with the small and compact FriwaMini. This domestic hot water module is ideally suited to meet the potable water requirements of single- and two-family houses. Like its larger coun- terparts, the FriwaMini operates on the flow heater principle and draws its energy from a buffer storage tank which can be heated by various systems. This makes the FriwaMini especially suited for conver- ting existing heating systems to hygienic fresh water technology. It differs from its counterparts by using an econo- mical high-efficiency pump and intelligent control strategy. This ensures both a positive environmen- tal footprint as well as a high degree of comfort: the performance of the pump is controlled directly and according to requirements, based on the amount of water withdrawn and the specific hydraulic system. Readjustment is not necessary and precludes any overshoot in exit temperatures which is common in conventional controls. Friwa Mini PAW GmbH & Co.KG Böcklerstraße 11 | D-31789 HAMELN | GERMANY +49-5151-9856-0 | +49-5151-9856-98 info@paw.eu | www.paw.eu Tank transfer station PAW also offer a transfer station for potable water tanks to complement their fresh water product ran- ge. This allows heating of potable water from large buffer storage systems. The stainless-steel plate heat exchanger is completely integrated into the insulati- on and thus ensures highly efficient heat transfer to the potable water tank. The transfer station is an economical alternative to the Friwa-Kaskade, especially if large amounts of po- table water need to be provided in a short period of time. The three-way mixing valve with its infinitely ad- justable constant value mixer limits secondary flow temperatures and safely avoids scalding. Tank transfer station PAW GmbH & Co.KG Böcklerstraße 11 | D-31789 HAMELN | GERMANY +49-5151-9856-0 | +49-5151-9856-98 info@paw.eu | www.paw.eu Transfer stations SolexMini The SolexMini is a small and compact transfer stati- on with high transfer performance for solar systems up to 20 m² collector surface. Different variants are available for heating or potable water circuits. With its external heat exchanger the SolexMini is the ide- al solution for straightforward extensions to heating systems as existing tanks can continue to be used. With its variants „Basic“ and „Premium“, the SolexMini meets all requirements: the Basic version is an eco- nomical entry level model for price-conscious custo- mers. A temperature difference controller, analog vo- lume flow meters and a three-stage standard pump offer proven components and allround functionality. The Premium variant is exclusively and fully equipped with cutting edge technology. The station comprises finely adjustable high-efficiency pumps in both the primary and secondary circuits. Electronic flow rate sensors and the PAW-developed controllers permit both system control as well as thermal balancing. Whe- ther it is the SolexMini, the Solex, the SolexMax or the Solex Kaskade, the Solex range offers the right solution for any system from 20 to 400 m² collector surface. The SolexMax-Kaskade meets the demanding re- quirements of large solar thermal installations with up to four modules. This concept offers maximum failsafe reliability and received the 2008 InterSolar Award. PAW did not retire on their laurels and this year present the proven Kaskade with the new con- troller SC8.24. This own development is based on the controller concept of exergy-optimized storage management. To reduce the CO2 emission of the thermal unit, the primary and secondary flow rates are measured and then synchronized such to redu- ce reheating times to a minimum. The controller also offers numerous additional features including visua- lization, remote manipulation and monitoring. Is this really true? Why are the specific hy- draulics of the system not taken into account? This was the question posed by our hydraulic specialists at PAW and led to the development of two solar con- trollers with a customized controlling concept for your solar and transfer stations. The concept is based on measuring the mass flow and the thus determi- ned thermal flow at the heat exchanger. The exergy- optimized storage management ensures that only the correct tank is always charged to maintain or in- crease temperature. The optional LAN, GSM or Bluetooth interface also allows for remote monitoring and optimization of systems, so that the installing company can also offer its customers important long-term services. System visualization on the PC allows the graphic display of process data. It is therefore easy for the technician to detect faults via the PC, to maintain emergency operation via remote manipulation and to prepare for the necessary outdoor repair services. The FlowCon Basic is an inexpensive entry level model with functional features. This includes an analog volume flow meter and can be fitted optionally with an high-efficiency pump or a solar controller. In contrast, the FlowCon Premium is fully equipped. It is fitted with a FlowRotor and Hall sensor for the precise determination of flow rates. The combined pressure and temperature sensors and the return temperature sensor allow for precise monitoring of the system. In addition to the statistical values on temperature, volume flow and pressure, the cont- roller also calculates and stores the amount of solar thermal energy produced. Based on this accumula- ted data, the system can be optimized perfectly after only brief operation, if so required. Together with the standard fitted high-efficiency pump this results in maximum efficiency of the system. Using an extension station, the FlowCon 2-line station can be extended by one line at a later date. This makes it easy to im- plement solutions for 2 roofs or 2 storage tanks. The modular construction and uniform design allow for flexibility and reduce the installer‘s stocking costs. In addition to the FlowCon (DN 20), PAW continues to supply the solar stations FlowCon Max (DN 25) and FlowCon XL (DN 32) for larger systems. FlowCon stagnation cooler The FlowCon stagnation cooler offers an amazingly simple solution to overcoming stagnation problems and protecting the solar station from thermal over- load. The long stainless-steel tube with its exceptionally large cooling surface area is arranged directly after a FlowCon solar station and together they form a func- tion-optimized unit. The expansion tank can be fitted directly to the stagnation cooler at the collector inlet so that overheated solar fluid cannot be pressed into the storage tank. For example, the cover of the controller can be printed with the customer‘s logo. The established PAW modular heating circuits with their new design insulation and the Solex transfer sta- tions can also be personalized easily: an insert in the shape of a credit card is printed with the customer‘s logo. For larger quantities, PAW can, of course, offer their OEM partners exclusive series. By their modular de- sign these OEM variants offer a wide range of choice. PAW supports its OEM customers in the selection and implementation of individual solutions, be it from simple insert plates to customized insulation, from sensors to controllers, from ball valves to entire hy- draulic systems. Our partners benefit from decades of competence gained in the field of hydraulics and systems as well as from quality „Made in Germany“. As soon as the pump of the DrainBloC® is switched off, the collector field runs empty and the solar fluid is collected in the integrated container. As soon as the pump is switched back on, the collector field is refilled. This prevents any problems of stagnation or frost in the collector field. Due to its system approach, the DrainBloC® does not require an expansion tank. Water can simply be used as heat transfer medium, as it offers the benefits of environmental compati- bility, higher heat capacity and lower viscosity over conventional solar fluids. The pump and the controller were developed speci- fically for the DrainBloC® and are ideally suited for the special requirements of self-draining systems. Following the successful launch in 2009, a special vent valve was added to the DrainBloC®. The vent valve increases the return speed significantly. This re- duces the warm-up and return times and increases the efficiency of the system. DrainBloC®
